steering controls analog or digital
just put an after market head unit in. What do i need to get the steering controls working. Got no instructions with it as it was used. Also are the steering control wires in the dash plugs or in the rear where the tuner plug is. Thank you |

Steering controls are via a data bus signal - there aren't individual wires. There should have been a small adapter box included with the head unit. It's often referred to as a CANBus adapter but this is technically incorrect.
The steering command adapter is normally already wired into the loom cabling but your previous descriptions of your installation indicate you had to wire this puppy up the old school way - cut up the cars loom and splice in the head unit - so I'm guessing you don't have either the BMW-specific loom for the head unit or the steering command adapter included with that loom?

Have a look at this image - it might help. #2 decodes the steering wheel control signals...

Obtaining the missing wiring loom would have made the installation as simple as simply plugging it in - and the steering controls would also work. Too late now, I 'spose.
