Question X5 E53 rear lock, trunk unlock issue

11/04 build

Symptoms
Lately, on cold days, when unlocking the car with the key fob the following is observed:
1. Rear doors do NOT unlock
2. Rear trunk tailgate does NOT unlock using button on tailgate
3. Rear trunk lights (in trunklid) do NOT operate
4. Central lock button on console does NOT operate

When car warms up a bit, everything seems to operate again.

Not sure where to begin troubleshooting.
Fuses?
Modules?
Wiring?

Your assistance is appreciated! My passengers (who now have to jump over front seats to get to back) and my back (which gets wrenched when lifting heavy luggage over the tailgate) thank you!

sounds like a connection at or in GM3. When cold it retracts and does not complete the circuit

You could be right. It would make sense, as when the car warms up, the GM3 unit which is located in the dash gets warmed up rather quickly as well.

Unless rear doors are double locked you can open from the inside handle not sure how you can avoid double locking from the outside.

Sounds like an internal wiring /solder fault on the Gm.

Doors weren’t double locked (how do I even do that?)
I couldn’t open doors from inside the car

The fact that you can’t open the doors from the inside shows they are either child locked from the toggle of the open door or they are “double locked”. Double lock is what the car does when locked with the key tumbler or remote when ignition is off. You can lock someone in your car... It is supposed to be a deterrent as if you break a window you still can not open a door.

if you can’t open from inside they are double locked (or child safety lock).

Locking with the key from outside will double lock the locks. I don’t know if there is a way to single lock from outside.

Wife’s car has a cold related prob with get airbag module very similar to what you describe. If I had this problem I would take out the gm and reflow the solder on the circuit board.

I don’t think that module is vin coded so maybe find a pull from a wreck.

Unfortunately the GM is vin coded. I have a problem with my front passenger door and have researched extensively. But your re-flow solution is his best bet at this point

How do you double lock with the remote?

It’s automatic. Any way you lock the car from outside. Key fob or key cylinder
