I’m currently looking at coilovers to lower my E53, basically to a “slammed” look. I see lowering springs for sale but I don’t know how long the stock ones are. Anyone have this info?

I put on Eibachs and took some measurements - found in this thread:

Are you looking for just the height measurements of stock (unloaded) springs? I still have the old set lying around, but I'm not sure that would be much of a reference for you in setting ride height.

Well I found an item on carid that says they are lowering springs but it doesn’t say by how much. I’ll include the link.

Measuring height of springs may not be an accurate estimate of how much the vehicle will lower unless they are the same spring rate. Also, when a vehicle is lowered it changes alignment. It is possible to lower a vehicle beyond the capability to get it back into alignment without modifications. How many inches do you want to lower it?

That’s a hard question lol. I wish it was slammed but the issue with that is there is 4in of tire clearance and like 10 inches of ground clearance. So 10 would be nice but uhhh that would pose an absolute nightmare. So let’s say 3

I don't know of a lowering kit that will drop it 3". To go that low or lower I think you will need to go to coilovers.

As bcredliner said, be careful how low you go, you wouldn't want to get it so slammed that it wasn't able to be aligned.


I grabbed a set of H&R springs and Eibach anti-sway bars for mine and I love them. Now it didn't drop it 3 inches, but it did drop it almost 2 inches and it is still very much alignable.


All that said, I believe H&R make a spring for the X that is 2 inches, or you could always go with BC Coilovers "extreme low" option.
