M54 oil consumption: O2 pilot mod

Has anyone done an O2 pilot mod to their M54? Do M54 intakes have the extra port?
Fix 11:43.

The M54 1000 mile 1 quart oil consumption problem is explained. Mine has 155000+ miles. I think it's starting to reach this use state. Since fixing the oil pan leak, no visible oil is lost. At 2000 miles after oil pan gasket fix, I had to top it off by 1 quart. Castrol A3/B4 is getting harder to find around here. Normally, I have to order it. I keep a spare quart handy.

Yes I have used the O2 pilot mod and might try it again, but I ran into problems in freezing weather with it. Not your issue.

The O2 pilot mod is easy to put back to stock, so little risk in giving it a go.

But I would also suggest you consider a thorough engine flush like they use over on E46fanatics.com

Effduration,
Nice! It's not due for an oil change until 160k miles. It had a full change during the oil pan gasket leak. I was thinking about going to 5-40W over 5-30W. It's hot enough here all year. I'm preparing a parts cannon for a coolant system refresh. A new CCV system will on as well. I'll copy and print the procedure. Something else to add to my X5 notebook.

Out of curiosity, what's the piston running angle? Where is the best place to place a level for ring cleaning?

Walmart, in store, or Amazon online

I'm preparing to change my oil from 5w-30 to 5w-40 later this month; though there is only about 1300 miles on the current oil (5w-30 Mobil1, plus a L-M additive, that the PO had used before our car swap), it is now almost two years old (but still not dirty-looking). No added oil has been needed, so it's not leaking or being used/burnt.

I'm going to use Castrol Edge Euro 5w-40,

which complies with the BMW LL-01 spec, though I considered using the Castrol Edge Euro High-Mileage 5w-30. My X5 is approaching 211000 miles, so it is truly hi-mileage! I found five-quart jugs of the 5w-40 on sale at Walmart a few months ago at Walmart, at $24 each, so I bought two (now I need several single quarts of the same, so I don't have to open the second jug for the oil change, and can carry a quart in the trunk, in lieu of the "Amazon Basics High Mileage, Full Synthetic 5W-30" that's in there now (I use it on my '04 2500HD).

Since I have no leaks I can find, and aren't burning oil, I reasoned that I didn't need the special formula of the hi-mileage oil, and since the summer (and spring & fall) temperatures are so high here, 5w-40 should work. The Vanos & timing chains were refreshed within the last two years (1-2k miles max ago), so thicker oil shouldn't matter.

I'm buying a six-pack of separate quarts as soon as I can (on Amazon, if I don't see a better price nearby), so I can change the oil, following the yearly inspection (I don't touch anything that's working prior to one, in fear of jinxing myself!).
