X5 4.4 or is it

Hi tore into my x5 4.4 or so I thought all the parts that I’m getting on the timing and the camshaft are showing 4.8 how do I find the correct info and if there was an engine swap with out swapping the ecu will that cause issues

Someone here that knows these more than me should be along to verify but I think a lot of the V8 parts will be interchangeable.

Pop out to Realoem.com, put in the last 7 digits of your VIN and cross reference the part numbers that your finding, I'm guessing you'll find more than a handful that cross platform with the 4.4 and the 4.8.


That said, in order for your 4.4 to have a (running) 4.8 in it, it would have had to have all of the electronics (DME, etc) changed out to the 4.8 as well - and that is not an easy job...

If we are talking about N62 variants they both have the same ECU just a different software which can be updated without changing the ECU.

Huh, I guess that makes sense too. That may have been why I was told I would also need the "security module" as well (the EWS or whatever it's called).
