Smile New to e53 - Not to BMW - Glutton for Punishment

First post, first x5,

Recently got a 2004 toledo blue/truffle brown 3.0 E53, I come from the 3 series territory, a 91 325 and a turbo e36....so i figured the 3.0 m54 would be slightly familiar! This will be replacing my 91 325i as a Daily, already worlds better than the e30 when it comes to creature comforts!

The car made its initial drive home from purchase, and decided to mark its new territory with coolant all over my driveway... looks like the planned cooling system "preventative maintenance" has just become...well maintenance. To add to the joy of this, it seems i need an alternator as well.. ohh BMW how I love thee LOL

@Rsanten on Instagram for updates on the stable
I look forward to the information that comes from the forum

I replaced the Alternator 10,000 miles into my 03 4.6is with 95,000 miles. 5,000 miles later the coolant leak happened and replacing the water pump and gasket took care of the leak.

The radiator drain plug rusted and bind itself to the radiator bottom. I had to break away the rust with a makeshift chisel (Philip head screw driver)to remove the plug.

Welcome!

Good idea to post the year and model of your X5 in your signature so it you ask a question members can see what engine etc. you are talking about.

How many miles on the clock? Sounds like you DIY, that's a big plus.

One does not simply "replace" an E30, lol. You drive that thing until the wheels literally fall off.

Welcome to the asylum.

Oh, and which E36 and which turbo.
