Battery drain!

That was my issue too. Don’t realise how quickly it chews up its battery when that’s plugged in operating all the modules. I use it exclusively with the engine running or on a battery charger now.

Scared the crap out of me to as all I did was use it to reset the oil service light and then was just looking at the features for 10 or so minutes and it screwed me with a desynchronise! Car was still up on ramps with the wife’s car behind it on the drive! Nightmare!

I really don't think that was the problem. I have a fairly new battery (about 2 years old) and I didn't have the key turned to "on" for that long in the garage. There were no signs of low battery, and the car turned over strongly for a while after the problem had happened. It seems unlikely to me that a slightly low battery (probably in the high 12.xx to low 13.xx volts range) could cause something like that.

Same here. I was diagnosing multiple misfires and cleared codes. Next was the cranking with no start and fault code D1 (DME: Anti tampering protection EWS). Battery was fully charged. The Foxwell 530 was not able to communicate in order to reset/align the start codes. Tried to manually input the car instead of using the smart VIN feature and got the same "no communication" response. Disconnected/connected EWS and DME with no positive results. Took the X5 to an indy shop and they were able to align the EWS and DME using INPA. X5 starts with no problems. Wondering if the Foxwell caused the misalignment.

I would have used BMW Scanner 1.4 to align the EWS and DME. I may be selling my laptop and cable for BMW scanner since I don't have a BMW any longer. I just need to check if I have any other scanning software such as Toyota for the soccer mom mini van or Honda software for my daughter Honda on the laptop.

Here's a video on how easy it is to align the EWS and DME with the software.
