Probably. I've witnessed cat failures on a Saturn L300 and Jeep Liberty that did everything from limit top speed to 30mph to keeping the transmission from shifting out of first gear. If the grid starts to collapse, the back pressure buildup will cause lots of problems.

Glad to hear you got your issue sorted Al. Did you end up trying the non-foulers? Just curious if that trick even works on our cars.

Thanks! I didn't even bother and I'm glad I didn't as the cat was definitely bad and causing a power loss and I didn't even know it. Feels like a new car.

Clogged cats are happening more and more to our aging cars. A lot of E46 M54 engines now are suffering the same catalytic converter demise over on E46Fanatics.

From what I've noticed, the people running a lot of fuel additives seem to replace O2 sensors and cats more frequently. The two times I tried one I've always wondered if I was actually shortening the life of those components through an aggressive solvent or an operating temperature above normal operating range as deposits are "burned off". I think just sticking with Shell gasoline contributed to mine lasting 375,000 miles before triggering the CEL. 2004 X5 3.0 380,600 miles 2014 428i 69,600 miles 2004 325i Sold at 123,600 miles 2001 325i Sold at 66,000 miles 1970 Firebird Under Restoration |

I would think as long as the materials are of reasonable quality and the unit is rated for your engine displacement, it should work. 2002 X5 3.0 380,600 miles 2014 428i 69,600 miles 2004 325i Sold at 123,600 miles 2001 325i Sold at 66,000 miles 1970 Firebird Under restoration Last edited by srmmmm; 08-20-2020 at 09:23 AM. |
