Hatch light interchange

I did a search, but couldn't find a definitive answer.

The inner hatch lights on my 01 look hazy; tried polishing them and then compound+polish but they're still pretty bad. It's a different plastic than the corner tail light which still looks great.

The pre and post facelift hatch lights are different part numbers with the post facelift having at lease one supersede. The pre-facelift part only has wiring/bulb socket for the reverse light. The 03+ looks like reverse light and maybe a brake light or running light. The plug socket looks the same from what I can tell.

Can I just buy a pair of the later style lights and call it a day? The early ones are hard to find in any kind of decent condition and I'd rather not fork over $300 for a new pair.
