Rear Climate Control Fan running all the time

I just bought a 2006 4.8is and when the key is turned on the rear fan runs all the time.

I did buy new final stage resistors for the rear fan as well as the front fan, but it has made no difference the fan continues to run at the same speed.

I took the HVAC controls out of Auto and it made no difference, when I turn the fan control switch on the rear it stays at the same speed.

Any ideas, or is this normal? I don't remember this happening on my old X5.

This may sound stupid, but the controls for the rear fan are on the back of the arm rest. They are wheel type dials. One is for temp the other for fan. Have you checked the fan control? My wife is incessantly messing with it while trying to adjust the rear temp. When she's not in the car I just turn it off as the noise annoys the hell out of me.

Yeah I tried both sides, I am wondering if perhaps one of those switches is bad.

Have you looked inside the console yet? Those wires snake around in there, I could see the blower setting one getting frayed on something and shorting. You can remove the inside compartment and unplug the switch to see if it's the switch at the same time.

It ended up being the head unit replaced it with a used one and the issue is gone. Simple fix for once.

Head unit? Do you mean the whole HVAC conytrol panel (known as the IHKA)?
