Smile Steering tilt/tele motors

Howdy all

As my tilt motor had failed I tried to source a replacement; all those I found were obscenely expensive (IMHO), and many suppliers listed as out of stock.

On a whim, I ordered some DC motor brushes that looked very much like the ones that came out of the motor. A little bit of file work, and the brushes slipped right in. So now I have supplies and procedures to fix these small motors.

If anyone is interested I can re-brush your motors for a small fee (or trade for other parts), or sell you the brushes to do it yourself.

Is it OK for me to mention this here, or does it need to go to vendor section?

cheers
Ken

What was the symptom it was the motor not the control board? My wife's tit didn't work but it was the controller. Awesome you figured out to re-brush which is the exact thing I do to repair the door lock actuators. (saves over $200@)

When I opened the motor, the brushes were not even contacting the commutator(?) on the rotor. When I pushed them to contact, I could get the motor to spin, but it was very intermittent. With the new brushes, I can get smooth operation. To be honest though, I have been applying 12V straight to the brushes. Too much rain here for me to test in situ yet.

Cheers

What I meant was how did you know they were feeling in the first place? If you have intermittent operation? When we bought my Wife’s car the steering adjustment didn’t work at all and it was the controller it was broke and the motors are fine

Steering tilt/tele motors

That’s the feedback I was looking for. If just one of the motor stops working then I would definitely look into this bushes thing. If suddenly neither is working it’s got to be the controller on the side of the seat.
