Wanted; PASoft tool in Victoria BC to rewrite used LCM

Hi,
Anyone happen to have PASoft for an E53 in Victoria BC or surrounding area that could help me/or let me use it to rewrite my LCM? I fried my LCM and got a wrecker replacement but now have the dreaded red dot. I have INPA for the rest, but I need to rewrite the VIN and match my mileage to the replacement LCM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Phil.
PS
Anyone know of an easy way to do the above with INPA? I have searched, but it seems like I get close using NCS Expert(NCS Dummy,Tool32,WinKFP) but then my attempts are met with; Der Codierindex folgender Steuergate ist fur diesen Codierauftrag nicht zulassig: LCM 18 (“The coding index of the following control gate is not permitted for this coding order: LCM 18”). It seems like I have to match vin and mileage with my cluster to get rid of the red dot. Everything else works. I know I should just get my own PASoft tool, but I was hoping to get a bit of a break with this during these challenging times. I do feel lucky I did not burn up my wiring and my car. A tiny windshield leak ran down my A pillar and gutted my LCM. It could have been a lot worse.

Wow, that's crazy. If I were closer I could lend you a setup, but too far. Hopefully you can get her sorted soon.

If you figure you are in the market for PA soft, message me and I'll sell you one at a discount.

I sell these

Oh no! Dang! What happened??? Was it a leak from the tubes from the sunroof? I wonder if you got your windshield replaced.

To MY understanding, I thought the red dot on the IKE is when the mileage and VIN mismatch between the IKE and DME. Oh...guess I'm wrong.

Have you reviewed this youtube video???

Thanks for the responses!

Trasportador, I appreciate the offer. I may take you up on it if I cannot get it sorted here.

RocketyMan, I woke up to full headlights, full dash lights and driver side yellows on. Nothing would turn them off; key off and on, starting the car and a few other tricks. I finally disconnected the battery. I immediately suspected the LCM. I have been working on a 1970’s Argosy trailer during the pandemic (got it real cheap) and I have been researching how to pull the electric brake signal off the LCM so I knew how to get to it pretty quickly. At first I thought a rat had gotten to it, but it was clear once I had the bolts off the module was clearly fried. There was a real nasty rain storm here a few weeks ago and I had a wet passenger floor for the first time, but I had no idea where it came from. I should have paid closer attention, but in hind sight I think this may still be a better outcome. The LCM failed at home without a much worse fire. If the rain damage went undetected it could have failed anywhere I guess.

I went to the local wrecker and picked up two LCM’s. The first one I installed had the lights and dash corrected although I now had daylight running lights and the nasty trifecta (along with the tamper dot). I tried to rewrite and code the used module, but I was only able to get the trifecta to turn off. I then began the search for the water leak. I do not have a sunroof, but after running a hose on the X5 in a bunch of different locations it appeared that the leak might be from the windshield. I did pull the A pillar cover off just to make sure there was not a drain hose (there wasn’t), but once you begin to chase these gremlins you try anything to find the problem. I finally found the leaks by soaping the windshield and using a 12v compressor with a needle filler valve which I pressed close to the windshield on the inside of the car. Soap bubbles appeared across the upper windshield on the passenger side (see pic). There was also a light drip below the A pillar above the LCM mount location. I plan to reseal it all tomorrow.

Regarding the red dot from the LCM. The E53 stores the important coding information on the LCM (as well as the IKE and maybe(?) one other location). The LCM VIN has to match the (original) IKE VIN to not have the tamper dot. That is why I need the PASoft. I plan to rewrite the VIN and input my present mileage onto the new-to-me LCM. I have previously replaced defective components and coded them with INPA, but it looks like the LCM needs the VIN rewritten first.

I have tried a bunch of different things to write the VIN, but it looks like PASoft may be the bomb here, so I will continue to try with any suggestions, but I would like to try the PASoft rewrite if possible. I have looked at a ton of videos, including the one you suggested, but he also uses PASoft(BMW scanner) to flash the LCM.

I would like to find a way to rewrite the LCM with INPA, but so far no luck.

I can't tell for sure, but it looks like your X5 is missing the straight rubber seal that goes between the windshield and the body above the windshield? Part # 51317182004

I have just replaced this on both of my x5's.

Good Luck with PA Soft, but I don't think PA Soft will code the LCM to the X5. I would be using NCS Expert. I haven't attempted coding an LCM on an E53, but did a manual swap on an E39 and coded all modules using NCS Expert. Given the errors you are seeing in NCS I wonder if it is installed correctly and/or you're using it right?

The PA Soft 1.4 software suite is so inexpensive, every DIY owner should have this is their tool selection. I have INPA, PA Soft 1.4, Foxwell NT-510 and a generic android app called OBD Fusion.

PA Soft 1.4 is the way to go for your reprogramming of the VIN and mileage on your LCM. Here are the pdf instructions.

Oh Wow...Good use of the soapy-water and finding the leak! That looks terrible. I'm not an expert in terms of window replacement, but to my understanding, the front windshield on our E53s should use urethan to seal them in too, correct? That looks like it never fully sealed in addition to the exterior rubber seal another member was talking about.

Hey Overboost....in your attachment for the mileage write, I'm guessing it needs to be in Km, correct?

ALso, I see IKE in that list, can the vin also be rewritten for the IKE as well? I've been meaning to look at PA soft and the additional features. But I too have the red dot since I my last IKE melted and needed a new replacement.

Even though I don't own an X5 anymore thanks for posting the procedures.

I appreciate the responses.

Effduration, I removed the straight rubber seal after I found an initial leak, so I could get in real close to the windshield to precisely locate where the actual leaks were. The seal will go back on after I seal the leaks (with PROFORM PF 225).
Regarding PA Soft vs INPA; I successfully code modules with my installed INPA suite (I previously posted recoding a DSC module and locating the right files for steering angle adjustment with INPA). The problem with INPA (at least the problem I am having ) is that I cannot change/rewrite the VIN and the mileage into the new-to-me used LCM. Changing VIN’s and mileage seems to be almost impossible with INPA, but it appears to be quite easy with PA Soft. Most of the BMW modules just need to be coded to remove, say the trifecta or warning dash lights, whereas the modules that house Redundant Data Storage (specifically the LCM and the EWS) ALSO require that the VIN (and I believe the mileage) to match, other wise the tamper light gets illuminated. I would like to be proven wrong in this. It took a while for me to get comfortable with INPA, but I do like its power for coding and programming modules, but I have yet to see or read how to rewrite the VIN on the cluster or the LCM with INPA(WinkFP, NSC Expert, Tool 32, etc.).

Overboost, Ya, I have a copy of that PDF downloaded (plus a ton of other references for LCM replacement), but I was hoping to save a few bucks and maybe meet and exchange some info with other local X5 owners. There are a few local BMW after market guys here that I contacted that will remove the red dot, but the price ranged from $60.00 to $450.00 (that's more than just buying the PA Soft package). I was hoping to find a solution using INPA. Trasportador has offered me a good deal and I would then have PA Soft. I know I should just get PA Soft, but I tend to be a little stubborn when learning new tricks.

The LCM has the information stored in non volatile memory so it is as easy to code as described. Yes, it is expecting metric units as all the modules store values in metric.

The IKE is a different animal. Information is stored on the M35080 chip and cannot be modified through the IKE. The M35080 chip must me removed and reset through a chip reader and then you can reprogram the mileage and VIN from there. I believe if you place a new M35080 chip on the board the transfer of information will occur from the LCM to the IKE will occur at key on power.

Here is a link describing the procedure on an M5, the OP seems to have a good handle on it. I am not a professional by any means but maybe ping the OP in this thread and see if he will do the work for you.
