X5 E53 'fuel inject system' error plus fixes undertaken

Good Afternoon All,

I am the proud owner of a solid E53 X5 3.0D DS1.

I have recently hit the 'fuel inject system' error when hard acceleration then the car goes into limp mode, now it randomly struggles to run smooth at idle. You could put your coffee cup on the engine and it wouldn't move.

Error Codes Recorded
3505 glow plug module control unit
1613 smooth running controller correction quantity too high
1190 rail pressure control valve

FIXES APPLIED

1, Replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter
2, Replaced the fuel rail sensor

Everything seemed ok errors cleared and power restored then it came back.

3, Leak off test performed and all came back equal.

The engine takes a little longer to start but does pretty instantly.

When it is cold the idle imbalance is more likely but the issues are random.

I have seen the 'transmission fail safe' flick up once but no error codes.

I have attached a copy of the data from INPA.

I am hoping someone maybe able to point me in the right direction.

The car had her time chain replaced, along with all vac lines and new turbo and has been solid for 8 months.

The car does have a remap and that has been on for over 3 years.

Thank you for your assistance and suggestions.

The correctional value on injector Nr.4 is very high causing the rough idle and code for smooth running controller.

Did you measure the injector leak off, how much on 2 min at idle?

@Clavurion, thank you for your update.

Please see image attached.

Injectors 3,4,6 were 5.5

Injectors 1,2,5 were 5.0

If they are that even unlikely to cause any problems (unless they are all shot). Do you have estimation of the volume in ml/cc? (Just to remind that correctional value problem is a different thing with Nr.4 injector.)

I believe MM, but injector 4 jumps out when idling and clears down when at 1000 revs all good.

Thank you for your assistance I will get them tested me thinks.

Is there a preferred supplier of recon / repaired injectors?
