Final Drive Output Shaft (Front Axle)

While changing my front control arms etc my output shaft popped out (not that one...).

Two of the bearings (or whatever they are...) are loose, one is set in position but but turns.

Is this normal?

It’s a Uk spec 3.0d 2003 model with 97k. It ru d fine enough. I get a slight grumble from somewhere at low revs when initially setting off from standing start (usually upHill or where it needs a bit of heave to get going) but it’s nothing drastic.
