Diamaris or Proxes

Hey everyone i am ordering my style 87 wheels next week and want to know what peoples feelings were on the difference between the Michillen or the Toyo's. I am either getting them with the Diamaris or Proxes in the staggered fit of course. The Proxes look more aggresive but looking to see on wear and comfort of the ride with both. Thanks

I am not a fan of the Michelins at all. I guess they were hot 6 years ago, but BMW needs to re-evaluate that decision. I live in Nor Cal, have modest snow/mud needs and do not use a dedicated snow tire so I like the Pirelli Scorpions for the rainy season and Advans for the Summer.

Depends on what you need. Diamaris is a summer-only tire that has a softer compound design for maximum grip whereas the Proxes is more of an all-season tire that gives you better tread life and comfort.

I test drove an X5 before getting mine and it did not have the Diamaris, sounded like the wheel bearings were going out. I have 17K on my 2004 and they still plow right through the rain here in Florida, while holding up in the heat as well. I did Michelin, Pirelli, Michelin on a former car and there was no comparison, the Michelins just rode so well.

Seeing that you're from FL, I would think a Diamaris summer tire would be fine for you. The Toyos are built more for those like me where we see some snow every now and then.

My 03 has Toyo and my 05 has Diamaris.
I am switching my 05 to Toyo.
Summer tires are not only bad in snow but in cold weather, below 40, they feel hard. They have 14,000 mile on them and they are loud.

You'd be doing yourself a dis-service if you didn't check out the Advans. The Advan ST's are relatively new and haven't acquired much of a reputation. The BMWCCA magazine, Roundel, ran a test of the Advans on a variety of Bimmers including a 4.8is and had some really favorable things to say. They are definitely as good as the the Pilot Sports for passenger cars and Diamaris for SUV's and a whole lot cheaper.

Regards, Mike
