4.8is Coolant Tube & Valley Pan Parts List

While changing the oil last night I noticed a few drops of blue coolant hanging off the back of my under ride. I know I had a slow coolant leak as I have been trying to locate the leak for a few months only needing to add 3 oz. or so of coolant every 2 months or so.Hoping the leak stays small and I can postpone this service until Spring.

But now that I know the general vicinity of my coolant leak I am going to begin acquiring the parts/pieces to replace the valley pan & gasket and coolant transfer pipe seals as well as the large coolant pipe, and anything else that is going to be apart while in there, just in case it decides to leak massive amounts before my scheduled downtime.

I'm going to go the AGA coolant pipe route and replace all cooling system components but plan to replace PCV related items, too.

Going to start a list but wondered if anyone else had an inventory of what you may have replaced when you did this job just to make sure I don't miss something.

I'll post my list later once I gather the part numbers I think I'll need.

Nothing to add as you are approaching the project with open eyes and doing it right...

On secondary thoughts
Add in cam position sensors (CPS) seals as you will be right next to them as you work

Thanks for that StephenVA. Just added those to the list.

I've already got valve cover gaskets and spark plugs from an earlier planned intervention. I'll be doing those as well.

Been a slow start on this project as I have been putting it off until I can drive my E38 while I work on my 4.8. Now that the salt is off the roads I just ordered the coolant pipe from AGA today. Going to fill my fcp shopping cart next!

Anyone have any input regarding quality and fitment of parts in certain locations? I know when working on the family of e46s I had to maintain in the past that Rein was not recommended for the mounting plate on the radiator.

Was thinking about going with BMW OEM there. Any thoughts on fitment in other areas between BMW (OEM), Rein or Vaico?

thanks for the parts list, i just used much of that in my own spreadsheet for cooling system upgrades.

i've been running around for 8 months with the coolant temp CEL and thermostat stuck open. in summer tie i dont mind since the sytem runs a little a little cooler but fall/winter is approaching soon so i need to make sure heat works properly then.

just priced out the cooling system alone for me right around the $169 mark using FCP euro parts and the AGA pipe with new valley pan in there.

i find it weird that FCP doesnt offer the Genuine BMW Water pump for the e53 4.8 n62, they only show BMW Water Pump - Hepu Brand which is OEM but OE or genuine as I would prefer.

not looking forward to that,

have you done yours yet?

I have not done mine yet. Been too busy working on everyone else's cars in the family. Although I am about to pull it in to replace the control arms, ball joints, etc., this weekend, as those parts have risen to the top of the priority list.
I'm hoping I can get it in the garage in Aug to get everything done in my list above.
