disspearing oil leak

hi i have a weird one my wife called me about 2 weeks ago the X5 started smoking and smelling of oil. picked her up and had the car towed to my mechanic. there was a puddle about 8" under the car when i picked her up, and a bunch of oil all over the pass side of the engine compartment and headers. my mechanic called a few days later and can find a leak. its seeping at the valve cover. but it runs and drive ok. no puddles under the car, no oil all over the engine compartment.

what do you guys think? clogged CCV?

FYI it was about 10 degrees out when this happened and its a 2001 3.0l gas engine

Clogged or frozen CCV could cause this as could too much oil...

If your CCV or valve cover gasket or oil filter housing gasket are age-unknown, I would replace them.

A leak-free M54 engine is a temporary situation.

It's still better than a CH-47!!
If they aren't leaking they're out of hydraulic fluid....

Has the oil filter housing gasket been replaced? The gasket over the years are know to get hard and start leaking. A $10.00 fix if you do it yourself.
