Vibration Problem Solved

After replacing my transfer case chain, noticed a strong vibration from 22 mph - 28 mph that shook entire X5, making it impossible to accelerate normally. Since it was very strong at the center console, changed the Center Support Bearing with only a little improvement. Next replacement was the transmission mount with only a little improvement. Next was the motor mounts with also only a little improvement. Got rear tires balanced, which were 3 oz off and saw a good enough improvement that acceleration was now possible but the vibration was still there. Next up were the worn out rear ball joints- the inside edge wear on one tire was the giveaway. This almost got rid of the vibration but it was still there.

The fix? Replaced the subframe mounts. While the 2 fronts were destroyed the 2 rears were still in tact. Instead of OEM got polyurethane. Haven't experienced such a quiet rear in years!

Hope this helps others, this site has helped me quite a bit.

Did you replace all 4 bushings or just the two front?

Replaced all 4 w Susphane poly bushings, used Energy Suspension grease liberally.

Noticeable improvements also in handling and no more noise going over bumps.

Be sure to check the rest of the suspension. You may find other components failing if they have the same number of miles on them.

Yup, agreed. Also replaced other suspension items (but before the vibration problem so did not mention):
Front Tension Struts and Ball Joints
Front Lower Control Arms
Rear Guiding Suspension Link
Rear Wishbone Arm

Also got an alignment and wheel balance.

Will be replacing in the next couple of weeks the 3 bushings in the rear diff and the 4 swing arm inners. That would do it for all the bushings/mounts. Already drives like new, can't even tell engine is running at idle now.

170,000 miles.
