Unhappy Fuel Gauge Problems

Last weekend I filled up my 2001 X5 3.0 and the gauge stayed at 1/2 tank. I figure that the sender unit went south. Does anyone think that the sending unit will ever find home again? Now it reads 1/4 tanks and seems to go down with driving. Any good tips? I hate to go to the stealer.... Thanks

I had an Acura before the X with the same exact problem, a few days was the most I gave it and the needle never found home again...as for tips or tricks I know none, I'd say just take it into the dealer

Who knows where the sending unit is? Is it on top of the fuel tank under the spare? The poetess may also have a problem with her "unit".

They are under the back seat....there are two of them...$400 installed each...it happened to me...just give it a couple of days...it will bounce back but it's days are numbered.

Mine has also acted that way - turning the ignition off and restarting (sometimes acouple times) has corrected the reading - not sure if it's the sending unit or the cluster - my guess is the cluster in my case.
