Brake pedal question.

Hello everyone,
First time poster long time lurker. This is one of the best forum. You guys are great. I have a new to me 04 x5 3.0i. When I received it it seems the brakes are bad. With the car off, I press the brake pedal down, it goes down fine, drops quick and then goes back to being fine the last little bit. When the car is running, the brakes work but only for that last little bit. What do you guys think is the issue?

Thanks.

Someone got air in the ABS pump and didn't bleed it correctly. Unless you know what you are doing and have the equipment to bleed the ABS system my recommendation is to bring it in and let a pro fix it.

Pop another Newbie Cherry.

Just a heads up in case you're not aware but you're going to have to trigger the ABS pump which can only be done with a laptop/USB ODB cable or handheld tool as far as I know.

I would also suggest putting a battery charger on while you're at it so you don't have voltage issues.

What will the voltage issues cause? Blown fuses? Blowing modules? And will a 1 amp charger work? I bought a new agm battery for it? Thank you

During one of my attempts to bleed the system I didn't notice the battery voltage got low while I was triggering the ABS pump and it would only "click" and not actually engage the pump.

Shortly thereafter I started to have "communications errors" with the computer

wpoll will become famous soon enough
A 1amp charger won't cut it, btw. The car draws 10x that much with the ignition switched on...
