Rear sun blind hook question
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_3851 I'm retrofitting the sun blinds in the back windows of my X5 and I noticed there are 2 versions of the hook. One is a simple hook and per serial number provided. The other one has 2 little springs and is kind of a double hook. I'm really curious what's the different between them? |

I believe the simpler one superseded the more complex one. I replaced all 4 on mine when I got it, confirming your part number, soon after I got my 2001.
I can only guess that the complex, springy ones would eventually fail - due to moving parts. And if a simpler one can get the job done well enough, it's also less likely to fail, so it's a winner.

Well maybe you're right! I wonder what the spring was for. It pulls the hook down, i.e. the resistance is up. What would be the point of creating resistance for upward movement? After all, the blind will pull downward on the hook. So I can understand if the spring was pulling the hook up, to counteract with the blind pulling down. However the spring holding the hook down and loading if the hook is moved upward is messing with my brain... |

There are two different types of hooks and PART NUMBERS because there are two different sun blinds. The one blind is being secured by two hooks where the blind goes up and down vertically...and the other blind moves horizontally (side ways) and is being secured by a singular hook. Just trying to clarify if you are asking about both types of hooks...and perhaps that's why they look differently. One is securing for a blind that moves up & down...and the other is securing for a blind that moves side-ways.

Yes I was only taking about the one on top. Both hooks on my picture are meant for the top. The one you're talking about, #7, is different from BOTH hooks that I photographed. #7 s smaller than both of the ones for the top. |
