Android head unit and BM54

Hi folks

I have a 2005 E53 with a broken radio unit (the usual screen issue) and also probably a faulty BM54 (sound comming from only one speaker).
The idea is to instal an Android unit to improve it all.
But few questions come in mind:
- If i buy the typical Android units you find on the market like in the picture below, will i still need the BM54 (so need to repair it) or can i get rid of it?
- If no more need for the BM54, will i need to plug it to each speaker separately?

Thanks

No need to have a functioning BM54 in the car if you fit an android headunit.

You will need the 6m extension cable for the android unit, to connect to the speaker loom in the trunk (after you unplug the loom from the BM54).

What wpol said.

Highly recommend the Avin Avant4 unit. A number of us here have them and they are great with reasonably good support for a Chinese product. They also ship from the US so you don't have to wait long to get it.

Ok thanks for info, good to get rid of that problematic BM54.
Also most of existing head units support the x5 features like the webasto,, wheel buttons, odb reading?
I'm not in the US but will still have a look at this Avin one.

Steering wheel controls - yes.

Webasto? Do you mean setting the timers etc? Not inherently but if you add the iBus interface and Android App, then yes, all MID/OBC functions are added.

ODB - again, not unless you add a BT OBD interface to your OBD port and an android app to the head unit.
