Which exhaust to use

Picked up 4.6 exhaust thinking it would look better and sound more exotic, but YouTube isn’t really doing the exhaust any justice.

I have 05/06 X5 4.4i and want to turn it into a 4.4is, but the sport exhaust currently on the vehicle, compared the 4.6 on the YouTube, sounds a little more aggressive.

I’ve got everything blacked out, love the black tips, BUT think the 4.6 tips look more sporty and current with today’s exhaust tips.

Bottom line desire is to sound more exotic like the newer M vehicles. I know, not going to happen because it’s apples to oranges.

For those that have Dinan, Heritage, or Alpina, compared to stock, what do you think about the difference?

In the end, I plan to mount the exhaust and see for myself.

If it doesn’t sound like I would like it to, these will but up for grabs

I have a 4.6is exhaust on my 3.0i, and I couldn't really tell any difference at all.

Physically, the only difference between the exhaust from my stock 3.0 exhaust is that the pipes going into the mufflers are a quarter inch larger diameter. The mufflers, as far as I can tell, are exactly the same, other than having two small pipes going into the oval tips instead of the single larger, downturned, tip. The flange was the same and it bolted up directly on my car with no modifications.

I don't know for sure, but my gut feeling is that the mufflers are exactly the same inside as well as out, and the only difference is the tips and the larger pipes. It was a bit of an underwhelming modification (though it does look way nicer).

For sound, best bet is to delete the resonator and keep the 4.6 mufflers. Finding dinan mufflers is almost impossible now. Any muffler with that resonator is heavily muted. I had cutout installed that bypasses the resonator when I want. I have closed the cutout (to use the resonator) maybe twice over 2+ years. Going to just delete it eventually.

I uploaded a YouTube video of my exhaust and a buddies 4.4i with a Corsa exhaust. If you've been researching exhausts you've probably already seen it though.

Insight on 50i? Love the sound but it's subtle.

Sorry Andrew. No experience with the N63 in the 50i. Probably a bunch of YouTube vids with examples though.

I have 4.8 rear mufflers and a Magnaflow Tru-x Pipe (in place of the stock resonator). Definitely noticed the difference. See my other thread for video clips.
