Alternator bracket gasket replacement
Hello, I have an e53 x5 4.4i 2004 and I need to replace the alternator bracket gasket and I was wondering if I’m changing the rack and pinion I will also be unbolting the motor mounts and dropping the subframe. Will this be enough to get to that dreaded bolt of will I have to drop the diff and remove both side axles also? Thanks

My understanding is that left CV axle must come out and loosen left side mount to raise engine a bit. It's a solid day long job with typical hiccups. If you have no broken bolts or stuck axle you can do it in four hours.
