Tuning Software
Project Io is going to get some upgrades. I just need to know if I can tune the thing afterwards. Is there any tuning software (think HPTuners or EFI Live type of software) that I can buy to adjust fuel, and ignition and cam timing tables in the ECM? I picked up a set of Alpina Sport cams for it, and I'll be building a set of long tube headers as well.

Ah, HPTuners. I haven't heard that in a long time. I have an Fbody cable around here somewhere...
Unless something has changed, everyone on E53 is using a complicated mess of bootlegged OEM software. "ISTA" of some flavor, and some other packages that do things I don't remember. I don't know what your ECU is, but the 3.0 is a siemens unit (MS54) shared with E46 3 series. Those folks (e46fanatics.com) did all the work on learning to code and tune for 3.0. If your ECU is the same, those packages should work for you.

Most folks use INPA, NCS Expert, PA Soft (aka BMW Scanner) loaded on a laptop. But you really aren't "tuning" as much as reading codes, diagnosing problems, and setting options (lights, auto locking, etc.)
Look at "Software and Tools" at the following E46 link https://www.e46fanatics.com/threads/...links.1130405/ OBDFusion loaded on a smartphone along with a wifi obd2 reader is great for reading fuel trims, solving lean codes, etc. beyond that, you can poke around on the E46 DME tuning forum and see if anything more advanced appeals to you. https://www.e46fanatics.com/forums/d...dme-tuning.98/ |

MoonX5 appears to have a 4.6is, so none of the E46 threads will be much help...
There is some tuning info on the M62 here... https://www.torquecars.com/bmw/m62-tuning.php

Thanks for your input everybody. Looks like I'm stuck with the stock stuff!
