Update: after leaving the driver door switch unplugged for several hours, it didn't go to sleep. I pulled the right door switch. It showed no signs of electrical corrosion. All three connections were checked. The left also showed no signs of corrosion.

I'm still searching for a meaning to "Deactivation criterion for window operation: error"
