13 months / 10k miles update on my X5 purchase after a 2700 miles epic journey

https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...iles-away.html

I'm happy to report that X5 was everything I hoped for and more.
While I'm not really religious I do believe in BMW Gods and I'm convinced that they alligned the universe in order for me to get this beauty.

I also need to mention that it took me a long time to find it in this configuration: Alpine White on Black, Sport package, 3.0 I6. I wanted all of this these options and didn't want to substitute any of them.
The added bonus was the realization that this is one of very last E53 X5 built, August 25, 2006.

I've done number of PM items and did few minor repairs. I've had CEL for a while that was pointing to vacuum leak but could never pinpoint. But then, it's been probably few months now with no CEL so go figure.

This is mainly missus's vehicle with me driving it once a week to perform Italian Tune UP and to make sure all is well.

Maybe I'm stuck in the past but at the moment I have no desire for newer BMW. Missus is very happy with it, I tinker and enjoy my one of a kind 532M and 1st Gen Tundra does the work chores around the house.
Life is good!

Italian tune up; love it!

I taught my wife that her 50i needs some proper exercise and she does it herself. Best part is when one of her girlfriends is in the car and she will do it.

0-90 in 9-10 seconds is thrilling every time.

Exactly, proper italian tune up is more beneficial for engine than people may think.
50i is the beast!

Bmw had a TSB about the n63 engine having significant problems if driven too gently (dead serious). So I passed that info onto the wife and she will use all the horses on occasion.

I like the 50i. I actually picked it as my future favorite years ago over the M; my thinking is it's like a detuned M. 80% the power will stress important parts far less and should add to longevity and reduce repair cost and downtime.

S63 is a race engine in a road car, I wouldn't expect Camry reliability.

We love the 50i. Very high smile per gallon.

I totaly agree.
Limited knowledge I have about N63 vs S63 confirms your opinion.
I was scrolling the google the other and by accident found that remanufactured N63 by BMW is only about $5k IIRC.
I'm not sure which version you have but it might be worth looking into it.
This would be of course in case you catastrophic failure and you want to keep the car.

That's good to know re: rebuilt n63. We have "version 1" of the motor so and replacement would be equal or better.

I like the Mark one model because no Valvetronic

I think this is your engine because I picked the earliest build on realoem.
If I had 5.0 I'd be very tempted to get this:

That is hell of a price.

That's AMAZING. of course our motor is the same so no need. But if it shits itself, a whole motor for 50% more than 8 injectors I would definitely look into that motor

Even better deal and well known dealer I bought from many times.
They call it " exchange short engine" so I assume no accecories included such as turbos and of course no A/C, PS etc...but it's still hell of a deal.
If I could get my hands on cheap local junkyard engine to use as core, I'd be tempted to get this and then do...not sure what, lol.

Well if doesn't include injectors it would be much less of a good deal but it's great to see it out there
