GMIII installation

The X5 GMIII module is repaired after delays. It should be here on Friday. The battery will be disconnected for installation. They probably didn't wipe it so coding shouldn't be necessary. If it needs coding, I'll have to get someone to do it. It will be nice to get wipers, interior lights, rear hatch, tailgate, rear door locks, and hopefully the no sleep problem fixed. It's due emissions testing for Jan inspection. It's been on a trickle charger for two weeks. The Battery Tender indicates the battery is fully charged. I'll test sleep mode with my Foxwell too.

Is there any other precautions I should take?

No precautions needed. I've replaced a few on e38s and never disconnected the battery. You may just need to reprogram your remote lock/unlock but since its your original module nothing extra should be required.

Great! The module arrives today. One aftermarket key stopped working. One OEM and aftermarket key did work. I'll reprogram all three if they don't work right away. It due for new tires as soon as it can move again. Going upgrade to 255/60R17 tires.

The GMIII is in. Following instructions, the battery was disconnected. I had my Foxwell scanner but I could not find the sleep function. I forgot how to get to it so I didn't test it. The P light is not on and I don't know if it goes to sleep. I'll know something was fixed if it cranks up tomorrow. Two full days without being on a tickle charger. One day off a charge, it cranked up strong this morning. Now I have to trace a blown fuse or relay. Interior lights don't work. Hatch and tailgate don't open. The power seat does not move unless key power is on.

umm....did you code the replacement GMIII yet?

It's the OEM one. It shouldn't need coding. I'm checking fuses and relays later this week. If they are all good, then it may need some coding. So far, the OEM key does work. I'll have to check the other two keys for operation. It must have been in bad shape. Took 16 days to get it back. Thanksgiving week was short, so it was a factor. Once I confirm it goes to sleep, it's getting new 255/60R17 rubber.

I searched xoutpost to find the directions for a Foxwell sleep test. I posted them awhile back. The instructions were printed. I've put them into my X5 info binder. I'll reply once a test is complete. The service place did a good job of cleaning the module. The outer casing looks dipped in a cleaner. The pins are perfectly clean and straight. The circuit board probably looks great after their work. Hopefully, this repair will solve the most annoying problem to date.
