My central console slider thingy broke

Hey guys,

Tried to make the title as descriptive as I can, I’m not sure what it’s even called

Today out of nowhere I noticed that my sliding closure thingy just broke. Anybody have this happen? Is it possible to replace or fix it? In theory, if I found out how I can get to the broken off part, I could somehow glue it together, since 90% if the time I keep it closed with my phone placed on top.

The whole part is the "Center console insert center".

The sliding part is not separate but I would call it the sliding door.

Take the whole part off to get to it from the inside. I think some very good tape like gorilla tape or T-Rex will get it fully operational for at least a couple years (I wouldn't try to operate when it's 150°F in the car)

It's def not $92. More like $400. Not sure if the sliding part you need requires removal of the console but if it does that's a pretty time consuming job and for me I consider it a royal PITA.

I think those real oem prices were at the time the car was new.

Wow thanks man, that‘s very detailed!

With the part number, I was able to find some used or non OEM variants around here for 40-60ish$, which I would still find reasonable. But tbh it really does sound like quite a PITA to take it apart to just get to it. I‘ll try to find some guides or videos on it to determine if it’s really worth the time.

OP - just had this happen to mine a couple of months ago. I decided to just let it be due to the following reasons:
  1. I only use it as a cup holder, so it doesn't really matter if I can close it or not. Although it looks much nicer closed when not in used.
  2. It's a PITA to replace
  3. It will be expensive for a new one, if it's still available.
  4. A used one would most likely end up in the same faith since all of them are at a similar age now - not sure if it's worth the time and effort to replace it with a used one due to #2 above.

Aftermarket to the rescue. eBay has a replacement roller portion for $30. Will be ordering a couple to have on hand. Hopefully they offer something similar for the e70 because it just broke...

If you do reeplace with used, you would want to reinforce the underside with tape or maybe glued on fabric something you could do with yours though it will look cleaner if fixed before it breaks as the seam will likely be visible
