Foxwell NT520 Pro - sleep mode command

Today, I finally had time to scan my X5 sleep mode. Here are Foxwell menu options for sleep mode. I activated the option. My X5 went to sleep for 2 seconds then woke up again. Several times the same thing happened. The P light would turn off and come back on. One time it stayed asleep for a few seconds. The cycle woke up when the left front door was closed. The door was actually open when it stayed a sleep for a few seconds. The cycle as broken when the door was closed. I wanted to test longer but my wifey closed the door. When I tried it again, the X5 would not stay asleep. Going through the menu options, The final list of electronics displayed one error. The “Deactivation criterion for window operation: error” appeared.

So my next steps are to find the fuse or door module and pull the power. How many modules are installed? Where is the main module? Is it part of the GM3 module? During sleep activation I could hear two possible clicks. One click behind the glove box. One possible click in the rear relay area. I plan to use a clamp meter to test amp draw.

Does anyone have any guidance or information to help solve this non sleep mode problem?

ZKE Central Body electronics menu: Option: 2 : Sleep Mode

The following message will appear:

“To lower the constant battery draw when the vehicle is parked, the complete ZKE system will go into Sleep mode 16 minutes after the ignition has been switched off and no further ZKE function is active. Approximate current draw is Ignition switched off - approximately 750 mA. One minute after = approx 560 mA. After 16 minutes (sleep mode) = approximately 18 mA. When sleep mode is active all modules within the ZKE system will be forced asleep. The P-Bus remains active, however no data request is received. Door modules or keyless remote module can wake up the system.

The last step will be command functions

“To force control unit to sleep:
1. Turn off ignition
2. Force control unit to sleep. Press F3 “Activate”.

In the “ZKE Central body electronics” window, all the installed features will be displayed.

Has anyone seen this error? Internet searches produce no information.
Do E53s have window programming or reset features? The left front regulator is replaced. I'm hoping the Foxwell has a feature to test window operations or communications. It takes time to go through so many menus. Menus are deceptive unless you know BMW jargon.

You can operate the windows from the service menu under body electronics.

Great! Thanks! I'll go to the submenus and test. I hope I can ID the error. I'll identify the amp draw for future reference. I see there two are window modules, front left and right. Worst case, I'll have to replace the bad one or both. Using the sleep command is such a time saver. All the windows roll up and down from their own side and master switch. So finding the problem won't be easy.

Update: Both fuse 20 and 24 were both pulled. The command for sleep was activated. After 2 seconds it woke up. The door window modules (switches) can be eliminated off the sleep list. Also eliminated are fuse 74, FSR, electronic key switch, and radio fuse. The wifey yelled at me when she had to boost it today. I'll take another look on Thur. I'm waiting on a new door latch mechanism. The driver side door broke on Friday.
As suggested, I'll unplug the switches and try again.

Update: after leaving the driver door switch unplugged for several hours, it didn't go to sleep. I pulled the right door switch. It showed no signs of electrical corrosion. All three connections were checked. The left also showed no signs of corrosion.

What about the window safety switches that is in the window seal tubing?

Que? Window tubes? Are these behind the door panel? I have to take off the driver side for a new door handle. The handle broke on Friday. I have to open the door from the passenger side.

I'm not sure how they work but when the window is rolling up and you push on the top windo seal it shuts off the window motor to keep from pinning you in a closed window.

Just a thought on an off chance...

Interesting. Do E53s have window calibration too? I know newer models do. Mine had a broken front left regulator. The previous owner unplugged the harness. I installed a new regulator. Not know that I could have fixed the OEM for $20, I bought an aftermarket one. I kept the OEM regulator. Once the current one fails or I get annoyed with its speed, I'll fix the OEM and reinstall it. The no sleep issues started two months after we bough it.
