Unless I’m missing something, running boards are very common here in Ontario. Are people actually paying that kind of money for them?

the smiling face in the subject would lead me to believe that whoever listed that "rare" option is also the kind of person to sell you magic beans

X5chemist will become famous soon enough
I would like a set. Too far and too pricey though. I'll keep looking locally.

While it may be very common in Canada, it's not common to see it in the US for e53 since it's a dealer installed option which almost no one takes. Although, it's becoming more common for e70 and newer X5 since BMW made it a factory or port installed option. I paid about that much for it 18 years ago and that was with a discount. BMW listed it for about $800 IIRC.

no shit?!?!

I can count on one hand the amount of e53s I've seen WITHOUT those running boards around here.

Personally I think it looks terrible but it's hard to come across the delete kit

It's the total opposite here. Even in Newport Beach, CA - the BMW capital where you see more 3/5 series than Corollas/Camrys, I can count with one hand the amount of e53s WITH aluminum running boards in the last 18 years that I've owned mine. So...the ads is not wrong given it's locale. These are like hen's tooth nowadays in the US.

Reminds me what my nephew told me - that in Europe titanium dash is the norm, and wood grain dashboard are sort after - just the opposite of the USA. He was even offering that we swap.

I actually agree with you on the looks. I've never been interested in the running boards.
