Transmission Fluid Change Question
Just a quick question, I have a 03 x5 with the 5L40E transmission and as you may know the fluid pan is at an angle when the car is level. I was wondering if I should level the pan so the car would not be level, or do I level the car but the transmission pan isn't level. I'm guessing I need to have the car level since the transmission is suppose to be at that angle when the car is flat on the ground. I didn't see anyone else talking about it so I thought I should ask.
Thank you. |

okay awesome, thank you. I was reading of people saying that the Adaptive transmission control needs to be reset once you do a change. Is there a way to check if my car has that since it is the 03 model right before Xdrive. Also I know that resetting it requires me to take it somewhere or connect to the ecu and do it my self with a program.

Yes need to reset xm adaptations. I use foxwell scanner I don't like the computer/cord solutions. If you plan to DIY you need a scanner such as foxwell

You don't like it for using INPA either? it seems like it would be beneficial since it shows you so much data.

I have successfully run nearly everything off of my laptop servicing E-chassis generation bimmers/R-minis as well as later F-chassis. And btw...I'm running M$ Win10. PA Soft 1.4 is really simple, and you can find it for circa ~$15 for the specific adapter. For INPA, it is about the same price for that adapter as well. Honestly, if you can read directions AND follow them with understanding, you can figure it out for Win10.

I would love to use inpa for the 2-3 things it can do but I don't have a 20 yr old laptop and really don't want to emulate one either.

Running software referenced by Bimmergeeks on my 2020 Dell laptop with Windows10 (i7 CPU) which provides access to the three programs I use on my BMWs: INPA, NCSExpert and ISTA. My cable initially came with software from a Romanian seller which I installed on a "retired" Windows XP desktop. I still use that occasionally.
The install on the laptop needs to be done according to the instructions but has been running flawlessly. I also run the software for my Tundra on my laptop and that was a lot more fiddly to get it to work. For the BMW definitely no need to get the 20 yr old laptop :-).
