Big screen radio swap from MID

Hey X-Men,

Really liking the looks of the big screen on the X5.
I know it’s old. Is it direct swap to change out
With my factory MID-CD player?

Retrofitting the OEM NAV is a huge pain in the ass. Retrofitting an Android unit that looks like the OEM NAV is pretty simple.

Should I just start over with a wide screen unit like Alpine or something?

I don't know why you'd put an awful looking double DIN unit in when you can get a really nice unit with a similar size screen, a lot more functionality, and that looks stock.

Love my Avin. Looks totally stock to anyone that doesn't know what they're looking at.

that looks amazing; if i still had my e53 i'd be looking into that for sure. the 2011/2 we bought over the past year have a nice factory setup. (did not like the 08 system i looked at).

Swapping the E53 MID for the monitor system with a remote radio tuner in the trunk, requires installing a new harness (from BMW) front to back and then coding the car for the changes. Been there, done that......on a long gone 4.8iS. This was when Android units were still in their infancy.

Installing an android in a MID equipped car is far easier and IMO a better solution than swapping-in the now very antiquated monitor system from BMW.

I am considering putting an Android in my remaining E53 but unfortunately I face having the factory monitor unit which requires installing..... you guessed, a harness front to back.
