Never seen this before

My AC serpentine belt shredded. It mysteriously has been chewed up.
It also damaged the main serpentine belt. No idea why this happened.
It was missing. Some of it tangled on the crank pulley. New ones ordered.
Anyone else get a serpentine belt explosive story.

Check the pulleys on the idler and the A/C pump

In my case the pulley bearing failed which caused the belt to shred

You mean something like this!?

(Wife called last night said battery's light on dash and extremely hard to steer).

N55 has only one belt and it's insanely tight. I didn't have a T55 (or whatever size) and it took over an hour to figure out some way with what I happened to have to back off the tensioner!

Shreds wrapped around the alternator pulley. It wouldn't turn by hand until I pulled out enough shreds. Luckily didn't see any around the crank!

I’m fighting a main accessory belt that slowly shreds from the front edge, then eventually departs the motor when it can’t hang on any more. I think I’ve traced it to the dinky plastic pulley on the rebuilt Bosch alternator I put in the new motor. The pulley had a small area deformed inward (very slightly) when I installed it and which now is much larger. Super frustrating. I’ve got a metal pulley on order to replace it with.

Belts tend to shred like this is something got seized. A waterpump seized can cause this, alternatively belts can also just break in one spot but it's up to chance. Either normal wear and tear or check all driven components

Found out the problem.
The AC compressor locked up.
It turned a few revolutions with the new belt.
Then it stopped all together,
I hope that the compressor didn’t send shrapnel
down stream.
What’s the preferred compressor?
Rebuilt or new.

Go new on compressors! Glad mine was replaced prior to me buying it. Blows down to 40 degrees! The lowest fan setting is enough to chill the inside. Ceramic tinting does help too!
