UPDATED!!! More X5 pictures in snow

Hey gang thought youd like these pics. i took them today after the storm stopped. we got about 20 inches where i live. I found an unplowed park and went joy riding. I had the air suspension up and it ran flawless not one hesitation. I even stopped and tried to get stuck. when taking these pics i stopped in a low area. only about a foot or so of snow. because i only had sneakers on i didnt want to get out in the deeper stuff. i wasnt planning on walking in snow when i left my house. then i figured i had to take some pics for you guys. But it was mostly about 18 to 20 inches i went through a couple of snow drifts that were about 30 to 36 inches. When it got real deep the snow started coming over the hood onto the windshield i could see anything. I was riding around for an hour or so. I was really suprised i went through that amount of snow with no problem. I kinda got stuck for a second when i went down a dead end path and it ended in a tall snow drift so i had to back out. And i just cut the wheel nailed the gas and pulled a 180. Lots of fun. the scorpion ice and snows obviously helped. Last year i got stuck in 1 inch of snow with my 20 inch continentals. very imbarassing. Anyway i got more pics i will download those tomorrow. By the way i wish i had someone video taping this you definatley would have like the 3 ft snow drifts. I actually stopped in one area think it was that deep and i opened my door and the snow was higher than the bottam of my door. The top photo is when i first pulled in notice it notice and clean. it didnt look like that after. i had about 6 inched of snow on my hood and windshield that i had to stop and take aff because i couldnt see anything.

Oh yea by the way after about an hour of this. My self level susp inactive warning came on and then my abs and brake liht came on in the dash. None of that stuff is working now. Hopefully it will tomorrow morning. if not i will have to take it in. Also allthough Xdrive is very very good. I would have liked to have limited slip differentials instead of the Xs open diffs. It makes a big difference. My wifes audi has it and it is definately better in the snow than the X5.

Nice, I was burried in snow yesterday and decided to just drive out. I love the fact that I do not have to shovel before leaving/moving the X5. All I need now is a remote starter and my winter worries will be over

The only complaint I have on the X in the snow is the clearance...but hey, if I wanted pick-up clearance, I should have bought a pick-up.

Nice pics, I had to deal with the same amount of snow driving out of the driveway and development and I totally agree with your snow tire review.

I just realized why my self level suspension inactive message came on.
While blowing through the white stuff i had it set to the high position and you know when you hit 35 mph it starts to lower automatically. Well my wheels were doing like 60 mph but i was only moving like 25mph because i was hammering on it and spinning the wheels so i kept having to put the susp back up and that overheats the compressor and it deactivates the system until it cools down. it works fine today.

Than the ABS and brake lights came on because the brakes also over heated. The reason why they overheated is the same reason why i dont like Xdrive because there are no limited slip diffs on the X so BMW decides to replace the limited slips with part of the traction control system. When one wheel gets no traction and it spins the brake is applyed to that wheel thereby forcing the other wheel with traction to spin faster. It works alright but its no limited slip. And even shutting aff the DSC does not shut this off. and if this function was not there the X5 would suck in slippery conditions. They should just use limited slips like audis quattro. I really dont know why they dont. In 2000 BMW decided on M cars get the limited slip diffs everything else gets open diffs.
Just thought everyone would like to know

Dinan, Pretty logical self-diagnosis, imo!

Very nice pics, too.

It is all about those snow tires in combo w/the XDrive, imo.
