Sunroof tilt fix

My sunroof tilt mechanism broke last year and got stuck open. I found a video at the time on how to close it manually with a screwdriver and a hammer! I haven't touched it since but it's time I addressed the problem.

There is a part 2 to the video where some parts are removed permanently to enable normal operation minus the rear pane tilt.

Before I go ahead and permanently disable the rear tilt mechanism as shown in the video above, my question is, what actually broke to make it stay open in the first place? Can that part be replaced without removing the whole sunroof? Or is this my only option?

Unfortunately, no, and yes. Very fiddly repair which is why everyone disables it.
