I have had this fuse blown and we've seen several others on this forum with the same fuse blown, so I wouldn't say it's that unlikely. Definitely check this OP.

These are more pricey than I thought. My E39 was about $100-150 that I replaced last summer |

cheaper fan that works
X5chemist used an offshore branded fan to replace his Aux fan. https://xoutpost.com/1212553-post11.html
![]() He recommends it; any fan that works in Texas summer heat will get my approval, too. I'd buy it if mine ever fails. I'm already using a non-standard part in order to keep my truck cool; I replaced a broken "mechanical/viscous clutch" fan with a 3000cfm Flex-a-Lite electric fan. Even in 100F/37C+ degrees last summer, my m54 coolant temperature never got over 194F/90C.

Bapmic 64546921381 Electric Cooling Fan Assembly for BMW E53 X5 2000-2006 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0897LL3FF...ing=UTF8&psc=1
This is the one I used and I would do it again. I usually like to use OEM or OE but the price difference was nuts also m54 has a mechanical fan so you can get away with the electric fan not working for extended time other than AC functionally.

Confirmed. The brushless replacement fan has worked great for a year now. No complaints with a 42F working A/C. A R134 boost helped a little too. My only other possible upgrade, use the same fan supplier for a V8 cooling fan to delete the clutch fan.

Aux fan?
My new X5 has no clutch fan. I was ok with the redundancy; with just electric fan the first symptom of defective fan is the car warning you that the engine is overheating drive moderately.

Ended up getting a decent used one. The wires were all badly corroded on mine. Don't ask how much, but when you need and someone has one just down the road from your indy...
Funny thing though, it came from an X5 with the same last 7 digits but out by two on the last one. Two behind mine on the assembly line? I kept the old one and will get it repaired. I'll also scour the u-pull yards for another as well. Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
