I did try the 3-second hold. Did not solve my issue unfortunately.

Interior lighting and load cut-out

The interior lighting is controlled by following switches and systems:
• Button at front of central light unit
• Door contacts
• Terminal R and terminal 58 (parking light)
• Central locking
• Remote control lock system
• Airbag control unit

Button
Thank you, that helps.
I think what I will do is:
(1) Verify at the GM connector x332-pin 2 that it has continuity to ground when the dome light button is pressed.

(2) Verify at the GM connector x10460 pin 2 it has + power when any of the conditions are set (like door open).

My guess is +power is not being sent from the GM to pin 8 at the dome light. This seems the most logical since none of the interior lights work either. If I just focus on the dome light, I figure the interior lights will follow. Where I will be completely lost is how to determine if the GM is bad or some other trigger to the GM is not working.

Note that a three-second (plus) hold will cause what you are seeing - it will disable the lights.

But it may be you have GM problems as you suspect.

I did a normal press of the button and the lights do not turn on.

On mine, the reading lights don't work either. The GMIII is my suspect too.

SOLVED: My issue was the GM3. Replaced it with one I got at a junkyard of the same year (2003). The interior lights now work properly again.

Sweet! I tried a GMIII swap close to same build date. It set off the alarm as soon as I connected the battery. I'll report back after a new GM is properly swapped in.
