The pressure converters are MUCH easier to replace than the manifold... mayby an hour for both - for a slow worker like me.

On vacuum solenoid there is that air line connected to ambient pressure and it has an air filter. If that filter is clogged the valve will close slower after vacuum activation is stopped. So it won't affect how guide vanes are closed but slows down the opening of them. More likely this would cause over boost situation on initial boost rise face but then lack of boost on high load because exhaust back pressure is restricting flow.

Great well late garage I took her too gave me worse case scenario of keeping car for 2 days for the manifold in case this happens or that happens, I am 100% sure they had it done in a couple of hours, took it in thurs...they said needs till midday to cool down so they can work , next day 8:30am call said done...

Either way all clips and bits and bobs all other mechanic usually lose these guys replaced, small gesture but good, they also did an engine detail and looks brand new....(never asked for that) but guess helped as you can see everything and can see if their manifold install went ok as if not the whole thing will blacken and soot up again going forwards

PS i was getting that issue with the zf Transmission like you had been rear ended...when going off and on the gas pedal , not sure you know what I mean, since this issue with the turbo not being so alive the problem has gone, makes me wonder if indeed was overboosting in the first place..

Either way I will get son to start and rev slowly whilst I check if the plunger goes down if i can make it....again cheers for feedback

Right thanks learning something new all the time....ok so based on this not my issue as i don't have overboost....but hey whilst in there any harm done eliminating part by replacing (ok maybe money thrown away but would you do it?)

Clavurion out of curiosity and if you have a later 3.0d mines a facelifted one, when can you feel the turbo kick in and give boost at what rpm?

The boost build-up is gradual so there isn't any actual boost kick. Still you should feel the power already well below 2000 RPM.

ok thanks viewing the plunger seems a little tricky, first look look down in area i can only see this item in yellow from the top cant view the plunger ...do i need to get in below or remove anything at all?(not that I can as it is the air filter ontop, and wash bottle to the left of this on top)

Yep - seen BMWdoctors stuff - some is good and some is a bit suspect - like a lot of internet information. ;-)
