X5chemist will become famous soon enough
Oh man, just ordered one and had it shipped to my X5 out of state location. Ebay has some inexpensive options. A regular kit can be used if one piece is modified. One needs a flat side to fit in properly. A grinder can cut one to fit.

You can mean either the subframe bushing or the "rose bushing" (rear ball joint). Will help to know which.

I did mine in November and it was a huge pain since I bought the cheap amazon press. Get the one from Pelican Parts. I spend 3 days and finally had to grind mine thin enough on the flat spot to work. Would have taken 30 min with a tool that was made to spec. You probably want to replace rear thrust and control arms, integral links. With integral links, get a chisel to tap them back into place. Just use jack to compress suspension. Mine had 258k miles on parts mentioned above. Made a big improvement in ride lol.

Will the same tool do rear thrust/control arm bushings? I have a regular bushing/ball joint set to use along with an ordered rose bush tool.

No, Just the ball joints. You replace the whole control and thrust arm. Sway bar links rarely go bad, mine were fine at 260k. There is a separate tool for sway bar link bushings though. Remember, even if the tool is one time use and pricey, will always sell on ebay or craigslist. I sold mine that way.

I'm still learning part names. Part names are similar to front part names.
Do other bushings wear out as bad as the links? I have all major parts and links ready for installation. I don't have smaller arm bushings.

you don't need swing arm bushing, I replaced all these parts at same time. I got on FCPEuro but Rockauto seems to be cheaper but may be harder to find all pieces. I just did FCPeuro.
Rear
BMW Subframe Mount Rear (E53) - Lemforder 33316770454 (get a large crescent wrench or 24mm wrench)
BMW 8-Piece Control Arm Kit - E53CAKITL
BMW Sway Bar Link - Lemforder 33551096735 (did not need it as they were done about 20k before but did anyway)
Tool to get = https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...BMW334-190-333

Get a large chisel from harbor freight to use to tap in integral link. https://www.harborfreight.com/10-inc...sel-94347.html
