Climate control LCD display cracks/hazing

Sorry I did a search but couldnt luck on my problem specifically.

On my 2004 X5 the climate control display works fine with no missing pixels, but has developed lots of cracks/crazing on the surface of display. I was wondering if there is a repair for this? Or do I need to replace the entire climate control unit?

That would suck, the climate control works fine otherwise and replaced a few buttons on it sometime ago.

Looks something like this:

Looks like it could be the result of some sort of cleaning agent/product...

I have seen the IHKA unit LCDs for sale somewhere - cannot locate right now though.

Negative on the cleaning agent, I have not used this X in many months and when I got around to starting it up, it had the crazing. It did not have it before storage.

So the fix for this is a new LCD screen?

YouTube videos showing the IHKA panel disassembly (usually to replace broken buttons) seem to show that the LCD screen is a single piece part - the front "glass" is part of the LCD display.

But I could be wrong - often am!

No, I dont think you're wrong, and I often see lots of good advice from you on here.

I've seen pics of what you mean searching about this, and I'm afraid you're right. But was hoping there might be an easy fix I hadnt seen yet.

Or just buy a used E53 or post -98 E39 IHKA and change the whole front panel (if the whole unit is not usable as is).

Yeah this is one of the options. I will see if I can get just the LCD too.
