New side mirror glass wont "snap" back in

I bought new glass for the drivers side mirror and can't get it to "clip" in. I easily popped the old one out. Took of the black circular plastic ring that clicks onto the back of the mirror. Plug in my heater wires ...but for the life of me can't get the new setup to clip back in. I've lined up the bottom one, at six-oclock if you will, (as I can see that whilst pushing the mirror in) but have tried 30 or so times and just can't get the other 3 clips, at 12, 3 and 9 oclock to snap in. I'm looking square-on at the mirror as it goes in, to make sure it's level and equi-distant from all side. I even took the circular "base" off the mirror, which helped to line everything up and see where I'm going, but still can't get it to snap it.

Getting frustrated.

If someone can point out what I'm missin, I'd love it. Thank you.

The mirror glass is supposed to be removed by sliding it up on the mirror base. Remove the mirror from the base so you can first reinstall the base and then the mirror back on.

Thank you, but I tried that. (Sorry, didn't have that in original post). Can get it to snap in.

X5chemist will become famous soon enough
Oh, I see it now. I need to do the same to mine. Both sides have delaminated. I see double vision while driving.

jpilk99,
Where did you find new heated mirrors? Are they blue? I'm not sure what mine uses. Heated only, not auto dim on mine.

To the OP...glad you got your mirrors back on...but just for clarification to anyone running across this thread in the future...its not necessary to take off the round black disk as in the OP's pics above.

The mirror glass (as already mentioned) slides up and off that round black disk (for removal) and slides back down on it for re-installation. See the instructions below from the BMW TIS for E53 X5 mirror replacement:

Again, you just slide the mirror up and off and it should look like this pic below...which makes removal and reinstallation easy-peasy
