Auxiliary water pump....

I have scanned my X5 E53 and it has come up with an auxiliary water pump failure and AUC sensor failure....

Obviously I need to replace them, but are there any videos/tutorials for this specific model please?

I've trawled through the Internet and YouTube and I don't know if I'm blind, stupid or frustrated or all 3!

If anyone could offer me some advice on locating and replacing these 2 I would be really grateful.

Thanks,

Samantha ☺️

They are both really easy and there are pics and details posted here. I'm not great at finding things here myself but I think using google to search works best. It would be good to post your model year and engine.

AUC failure can sometimes be fixed with a cleaning

The Aux water pump you should hear running when you turn the ignition on, or at least that's the way it works on my m54

For the aux pump, it will take you longer to remove parts for access than the actual part replacement. I have to do this as well, so have looked at it. Take the left headlight out, 4 screws, 4 wire connections(takes me 3 min to remove. Take the 2 bolts holding the oil filter canister out and just set it aside. These 2 things will give you full access to the pump. 2 hose connections and a wiring connection on the bottom. You will lose coolant and have to replenish, but this is one of the easier jobs on the car. Goodluck!

Thank you very much, really appreciate it.

Do you know if the pump will be located in the same place for right hand drive please?

To be honest, I don't know, and I questioned that when i responded. But, it is a very distinctive part, just use a flashlight and look below both side headlights and you will see it.

I did this on mine a few months ago and am in the uk (I have a 4.8 but I think the aux water pump and layout is the same). The ac kept tripping out/blowing the fuse as the aux water pump was drawing too much current, so I disconnected it for a while over the summer - but as it got colder had to sort it before Christmas!

The pump was about £80-90 from cotswold bmw - they do good forum/enthusiast discounts.

The pump itself is clipped into the frame rail on the passenger side of the car. Have to move the header tank across a bit for access. And possibly the power steering reservoir (can’t remember now without a photo!).

I undid the radiator blue bottom drain plug but only lost a few litres of fluid (mine is relatively new - so get a replacement just in case if yours hasn’t been out for a while….) - which was enough to swap the pump over. Very easy - and no need for an entire coolant drain. Switch the power on (Not engine start a just so the electrics come on) and you’ll hear the pump whir up - I did this a few times and left it like that for five minutes or so to bleed it all, and have had no issues. Best of luck!

Thank you very much! I'll have a look at cotswold BMW.
