That BMW X5 SUV was my personal daily driver for about 2 years! I bought it with LPG system, and I was really interested how it will perform on LPG! Welcome to the site. LPG? wow, I bet it's clean inside. No issues with intake gunk build up. Are you running both fuels? Is the spare tire removed for a LPG tank?

I’ve been running LPG for at least 7 years and the paperwork says it’s been fitted since 2007 so previous owner used it. The vehicle starts on petrol and swaps over to LPG when the temperature reaches 65c the only way I know the swap has taken place is the lpg fuel lights stop flashing and goes solid. The vehicle is definitely smoother on LPG and automatically swaps back to petrol if it run out of lpg. It has an 85ltr tank in the spare wheel well, obviously a pita if you need to get to the battery or any of the other bits in there. Although the tank is 85ltr I can only fit in around 70ltrs as law says you need to leave room for expansion on a hot day. I have 2 mixers fitted 200bhp each to cover the 347bhp of the engine and guarantee that it won’t run lean at full power. It runs 1.5mpg less on lpg. Servicing is limited to changing 2 filters every 7.5k (£8). In the time l’ve had it I have changed the injectors at £16 each and 1 temperature sensor £3. There have been no other faults in my 75k miles. At every oil change I ask myself why I’m doing it as the oil looks so clean. As a bit of a whinge there are less and less garages who now sell lpg as they switch over to providing charge points for EVs. Even though my car runs clean it would appear the politicians want us out of our petrol cars.

I have been running lpg/petrol since taking ownership of my 2002 4.4 E53 in 2006.
Was on 40 K on purchase and is now 102 K. Only real killer is lpg tank is where spare tyre fits, had to do 2 battery changes so bought a wheeled engine lifter
to lift the lpg tank out to access battery, also changed solid pipework for flexy to get tank sufficient height to access battery.
Yes, you can double engine oil change life as you are burning gas not a vapour, if you want but I change annually for peace of mind (and oil filter).
Best investment made.

Cool. I always wondered if LPG was used on X5s. Can y'all post tank pics? How do you carry the spare tire?

Don’t carry a spare tyre, have a pump which plugs into cigarette lighter to pump tyre in emergency, carry a can of tyre weld to fill puncture hole also tyres have been filled from new with some puncture prevention stuff. Had occasion to use the emergency repair kit once fo quite a large nail and it did a great job. Paranoia is the biggest problem when you don’t have a spare. My VW doesn’t have a spare from the factory and I never think about it.
Here’s a pic of my 85 ltr tank, bloody heavy but I can manage to set it on the blocks on my own just awkward to do.

Dang that's a big torque converter.

Great for long trip runs. A hitch would be nice. A mobility scooter aluminum carrier can carry 500 lbs of extra cargo.
