The 4.4i cans from an early car will bolt on, right? I was going to go find some in a junkyard since I'm sure you could get them for a song, given the number of V8 cars in junkyards.
Not sure about fit.
The 3.0 exhaust tubing ID before muffler is probably smaller than 4.4 which would mean the 4.4 mufflers inlet would not bolt on 3.0 tubing outlet.
Just guessing though.

The 4.4 mufflers should bolt up without issue. The person that I bought the Remus from had it on his 4.4i and it bolt right up to my 3.0i without issue. The Remus website (when it was still available) indicates that it fits both 4.4i and 3.0i. So, if you can find a set of 4.4 mufflers, that will be an easy way to get quad tips.

Update:

Initial test fit looks great.
I may have to cut the trim around it little bit, not sure yet.
Main issue is the welding as Vibrant inlet is 2.25" and factory outlet is 2".
But, the advantage is that due to extra room, I can angle the tip to my liking.
Will post another update later.

Yeah they could - try having none at all!

BUT, I will say that having no exhaust tips through the bumper does make a number of maint. tasks MUCH easier (like the rear sub-frame bushes for one).

Looks very nice.

The 3.0s have the absolute worst exhaust tips. The only ones I like less are on the Excursions/Expeditions/Navigators where the whole muffler is visible below the bumper as if it was an afterthought.

Every X5 other than the 4.8is has the same size flange on the muffler, regardless of exhaust tubing diameter.

Fun fact: If you cut the pipes off of a late 4.4i muffler, the slide right into the tubes of a 4.8is muffler, for the easiest possible 4.8is muffler retrofit. It’s such a good fit that you could absolutely do a no weld retrofit using only clamps. (I still welded.)

The 4.6iS cans I got have 10mm larger pipes before the mufflers, but the flanges are the same diameter. The mufflers themselves look exactly the same as the 3.0i, other than the tips. Thought that was pretty odd myself.

First of all, thank you all for your inputs and suggestions and here is the final result.
I really couldn't be more pleased as it turned out exactly how I wanted it.
These might not be to everyone taste but I like them and maybe some will too.

Thank you.
I have to say I got lucky with their length and slightly larger inlet diameter.
The length was perfect in sense that they came out far enough to sort of flush with bumper, but not too long or too short.
The larger ID allowed me to to be able to move them up, down , left and right till achieved the perfect placement.
