Sway Bar Stabilizer removal ? Do I need to lower subframe?

2005 X5 3.0 - 6 cyl auto trans

I am replacing my front sway bar...it rusted so much that it is several sizes smaller in diameter under the passenger side bushing. I sourced a used rust-free one from Texas..

I can't get the old one out...I have removed bushings, turned wheels, raised hubs to gain clearance, all the while using some colorful language. Pelican parts says it slides right out the left side...BS...

I guess I need to lower the subframe a little? Does anybody know for sure?

I do have an engine support bar, but I'd sure rather not lower the subframe if I don't have to... Who knows what condition the subframe bolts and threads are in?
