And The World Ugliest Exhaust Tips Belong to...

...E53 X5 3.0.

*** Finished install and pictures at post #18 ***

At least, IMO. I always thought exhaust tips are important part of overal vehicle presence and I cant't stand the look on my 3.0.
I've used Vibrant many times before in my exhaust builds and they are high quality.
My inital measurements show that it should work perfect in terms of position and how much they will stick out.
The removable around the tips will probably have to go but it's made to be removed in few seconds.
My neighbour is extremely capable welder and I'll update the thread when installed.

Didn't get them here but it has part # and specs:

Yup, I took the second one off mine when the first one fell off somewhere. I've been looking for replacements. I like the downward look. Even better if it was a V8.

I really wanted the quad tips and have Vibrant ones in my garage but it simply wouldn't work in terms of fit and overall apearance.

I actually like my stock exhaust tips...functional but not so pretty. I used-to put stainless exhaust tips on most of my vehicles, the last one being on my '09 HHR (a tip cover, that was barely larger than stock), but since it was a small vehicle, my racing friends called it a "ricer" accessory. It really doesn't look that way.

Urban Dictionary says a ricer is,” A person who makes unnecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term “rice”) to make it (mostly make it look) faster.”

So, until an exhaust tip falls off or rusts away (not anytime soon, the mufflers are almost brand new), I'm not likely to add an aftermarket tip, no matter how good it looks. That's just me.

I understand and that is why I made sure to state IMO.

I agree and look forward to seeing the end result.

I keep looking at mine and thinking that it's something I want to get done to mine. It needs some other kind of exhaust tip, especially as mine appear to be bent in different directions...

This is one of the first thing that I'd tried to rectified since I got the car back in 2004. It didn't took long before I chopped the OE tips then gave in and got a pair of Remus.

The quad tips will fit perfectly and appeared to be quite fitting for the car, IMHO.

I think I may have a thing for quad tips

I definitely have thing for quad tips and had Vibrants installed on my former 4.6is:

I do have 2 of the same in my garage but the way factory 3.0 exhaust is placed and the outlet size would make very difficult to make it work and it would stick out too much which I hate.
Plus, being the 3.0, it thought it would somewhat more appropriate to stick with factory single tip theme.

I was lucky to find a set of 4.6iS cans on craigslist for $100. It definitely completes the look of the car. The stock 3.0i tips could not look any weaker.

The 4.4i cans from an early car will bolt on, right? I was going to go find some in a junkyard since I'm sure you could get them for a song, given the number of V8 cars in junkyards.
