3.0d A/C belt tensioner question - resolved

For the few of us on the forum with the 3.0d (M57TD...) - has anyone replaced the A/C belt tensioner? What did you replace it with? OEM part?

I'm getting ready to do some maint. (Oil Service) and will replace the A/C belt tensioner while I'm in the engine bay, as it's stuffed. Looking up the BMW part number gives me 64557786706. Searching this part gives me a number of different options - some are the full tensioner pulley inc. the pivot arm and others are just a pulley wheel and bearing.

I would replace just the internal bearing if I thought I could get it out of the pulley wheel without breaking the pulley wheel, but I guess it's a cheap enough part to replace at least the whole pulley and bearing. I *think* the pulley wheel is 65mm x 21mm but some options seem to be 70mm x 26mm.

If you have replaced yours, what did you use? Do you have either the measurements or the old part to measure up? I have the under-shield back on the car right now and so cannot measure my own one - I will remove it all again if I have to but I though it worth asking here first!

TIA...

I change the belt and the tensioner part no 11 28 2 339 154, I buy it from Ebay and it com from Poland the belt was "Continental" and the tensioner was made be ball bearing manufacturer "INA" It was a complete set of all wheels, belts and the tension springhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-E46-5-E39-330D-530D-3-0D-X5-3-0-D-ALTERNATOR-A-C-BELT-TENSIONER-FULL-SET-/222074143773?hash=item33b4a6841d:g:GVMAAOSw9KpXAWt 1

Thanks Gardar, that's very helpful. More info. is good.

You would think this was pretty straight forward but it's not. There's two different variations of the pivot arm on this A/C belt tensioner - on the older 135kW engine it looks a little shorter than on the later 160kW engine - not sure.

I'm hoping to replace only the roller wheel on the arm and not the whole arm, which is why I would like to confirm the dimensions.

Mine doesn't have a AC belt tensioner , the belt runs straight from the AC pulley to the harmonic balancer. There is nil adjustment.

E53 2006 model definetely no AC belt tensioner , has a drive belt tensioner for water pump, alternator, power steering but a seperate belt runs the AC.
I recently replaced the harmonic balancer, idler pulleys for the main belt and both belts along with the AC compressor.

Thanks Gardar. I'm not having any trouble with finding the BMW part number - more that when I search for replacement parts, I get an array of options that I cannot confirm will fit.

E.g. - a search for BMW 64557786706 can yield: -

This - https://spareto.co.uk/oe/bmw-64557786706

and this - | Spare Auto Parts New Zealand [2187-ST2] - PULLEY IDLER

and this - http://www.amazon.com/64557786706-Pu.../dp/B00HCO7DJI

What I'm trying to determine is which of the "pulley wheel only" options are the correct fit, hence the question about diameter etc.

Thanks again Gardar - that was what I was looking for. Some vendors show the tensioner pulley as 70mm and some are showing it as 65mm - I can now eliminate the 65mm versions.

*edit* - Rats - more confusion. Further investigation show the 65mm version is the most likely candidate (and not the 70mm). I'll just have to remove the under-shield again and check.

This - FI15010,KM International FI15010; Tensioner Pulley, v-ribbed belt

and this - BMW 330 3.0 Auxilliary Belt Tensioner 03 to 04 T39038 Drive V-Ribbed Gates New | eBay

all indicate to a 65mm wheel.
