Seems we have vehicles with no air springs. Cars with air springs have a level sensor at each wheel rather than just the two right wheels.

Many thanks for the feedback. I'll get back once I've soldered these broken wires and put this connection in a less prone position. Hoping this is an easy fix and all the warning lights on the dash disappear and my speedo works once again. Fingers and toes crossed...

So, by way of an update to my problems...
I've soldered and made good the broken wires to the connecting jack at the inside of the rear left wheel arch, added some convoluted tube to protect this cable better and taped it all up.
I still have no speedo, vacuum pressure (economy gauge), and several warning lights in amber on the cluster. My next step was to disconnect the battery for 24 hours to see if this does anything? The manager at a German car centre where it was scanned, said it was symptomatic of possible steering angle sensor failure, however at the time they cleared any error codes, the severed wires were still not repaired properly (just twisted together and taped up).
Vehicle seems to drive fine, however every now and again when travelling at highway speeds, I hear a warning 'chime' but nothing changes on the cluster.

Would be in your debt if anyone can suggest what to do next?

Are you saying that there is no wheel sensor code ?? I don't think disconnecting the battery is going to solve anything.

The speedo actual gets it signal from the ABS module and not directly from the wheel sensor. There is a chance that maybe the input for that speed sensor got shorted out in the ABS module when the wiring got damaged but you should really make sure that everything is OK with your wiring and the wheel speed sensor(maybe wire got pulled.) And for sure get a scan tool that will read everything.

The rear left wheel speed sensor signal is still not functioning. Most likely the cause is still it the wheel well wiring or the sensor itself. (Unlikely to do any harm on the module even it the wires were shortred). Steering angle sensor would only cause DSC malfunction (not ABS or speedo malfunction). You can quite easily measure with multimeter the wiring is intact between ABS module and connector in the wheel well.

Thanks for your speedy replies and advice.
Could you please guide me as to where exactly the wheel speed sensor is located? I've had a good look around the area, and cannot for the life of me see any other damage, except the wires that I have since repaired. I will undo my repairs and double-check everything as suggested. TIA
