Alarm triggering for no reason and unable to silence it.

Recently I have noticed my E53 4.4i 2004 X5 alarm has been sounding for no reason. Its weird because the alarm will sound and I can not disable it with the FOB, but I can start the car and drive it while the alarm is still going off. I have checked fuses and terminals everything is good. I know it will be a huge amount to repair at the dealer. My cv joint axle just snapped today for the 2nd time in two months. That being said I am looking for the most cost effective way to go about fixing this. My thought was to purchase an aftermarket alarm system w/ remote start and have that installed. My question is, can I disable the factory alarm to stop it from interfering with the aftermarket one? Does this make sense coming from my angle? Delete the malfunctioning stock alarm system and replace with an aftermarket system?

Fixed and I do agree with you J.

It won't throw any code since it's purpose is to detect if the hood is closed or not. You can disconnect it to see if that's fix the alarm issue. I have mine unplugged.

my first thought was also the hood position sensor. There should be diagnostic tools to read what fault the alarm module is sensing. It would likely require a visit to a very knowledgeable (Read as: Expensive) mechanic.

How old is your automotive battery? Run TEST 9 on a cold engine (at least 2 hours after shut down)...with the ignition in position 1, see what the battery's voltage is.

If it is below 11.89 volts...your automotive battery may be giving you signs that it's time to replace it...and the alarm siren's battery is no longer getting recharged because the vehicles battery voltage is too low:

Battery is under 8 months Old, I also disconnected the hood sensor To see if that solves anything. I assume the dealer would have diagnostics to determine why this is happening.

Add two more fixes, there's an 03 4.6 here and my own 04 3.0 that have their hood switches unplugged.
